Local drivers are advised to plan ahead and avoid the Eastern Freeway this weekend. The freeway will be closed in both directions between Doncaster Road and Tram Road from 10 pm Friday, 5 September, until 5 am Monday, 8 September.
This closure will allow crews to remove and replace the walking and cycling bridge between Elgar Road and Doncaster Road. Crews will be working around the clock to complete the upgrade while ensuring no traffic is below during the operation.
The following Eastern Freeway on-ramps will be closed during these works:
- Chandler Hwy outbound towards Ringwood.
- Thompsons Rd outbound towards Ringwood.
- Middleborough Rd inbound towards City.
- Blackburn Rd inbound towards City.
- Springvale Rd inbound towards City.
The following Doncaster Road turns will be disallowed during these works:
- No right turn into Elgar Road.
- No right turn into Tram Road.
- No U-turn at 817 Doncaster Road (in front of Audi Doncaster) in both directions.
- No right turn into Mitchell Street.
- No right turn into the Doncaster Reserve car park.
- No U-turn when travelling eastbound at Churchill Street.
The following bus routes will be affected from 10pm Friday 5 September to last service Sunday 7 September 2025:
Also a lot of major roads around the work areas will be made into clearways during the works (meaning no on-street parking). Street parking will also be closed in both directions between the Eastern Freeway and Wetherby Rd from 10 pm, Friday 5 Sept to 5 am, 8 Sept.
