Eastern Freeway closure this weekend to cause major disruptions plus long term closures on local roads into December

Local drivers are advised to plan ahead and avoid the Eastern Freeway this weekend. The freeway will be closed in both directions between Bulleen Road/Thompsons Road and Doncaster Road from 10 pm Friday, 7 November, until 5 am Monday, 10 November.

This closure will allow crews to demolish the old walking and cycling bridge at Estelle Street in Bulleen to open the new walking and cycling bridge by the end of the year. Crews will be working around the clock to complete the upgrade while ensuring no traffic is below during the operation.

The following Eastern Freeway entry ramps will be closed during these works:

  • Chandler Highway Ringwood-bound
  • Elgar Road citybound
  • Middleborough Road citybound
  • Blackburn Road citybound
  • Springvale Road citybound
Friday 7 November to Monday 10 November Closures supplied by Victoria's Big Build

The following Doncaster Road eastbound turns will be disallowed during these works:

  • No right turn into Rose Street.
  • No right turn into Elgar Road.
  • No right turn into Tram Road.
  • No right turn into Frederick Street.

The following Manningham Road eastbound turns will be disallowed during these works:

  • No right turn into Thompsons Road.
  • No right turn into High Street.
Friday 7 November to Monday 10 November No Right Turns supplied by Victoria's Big Build

Temporary clearways and bus lane removals during these works:

  • Doncaster Road between Burke Rd & the Eastern Freeway interchange from 10pm Friday 7 November to 5am Monday, 10 November will be a clearway meaning no street parking will be allowed.
  • Motorists will be allowed to utilise the bus lanes along Manningham Road in both directions between High Street and Williamsons Road from 10pm Friday 7 November to 5am Monday, 10 November.

Please allow for delays up to 90 minutes.

Disruptions to the nearby walking tracks:

Once these works start a walking and cycling detour will be in place but due to the length of the detour an accessible shuttle will operate between Estelle Street and Carron Street to help locals navigate the detour. The shuttle will run every 30 minutes from 7am to 6pm, starting Saturday 8 November until late November.

There will also be some disruptions with bus routes from this weekend to the 14th of December...

Routes 282, 295, 902, 903, 906 & 907 will be affected from 10pm Friday 7 November to last service Monday 10 November.

And then from first service on Monday 10 November to the last service on Sunday 14 December routes 280, 282, 907, 908 in both directions will be diverted due to High Street & Doncaster Road Ringwood-bound exit ramp (Eastern Freeway) being closed at Doncaster Road from 1am, Monday 10 November to 5am, Monday 15 December.

There will be shuttle services available for people affected by the diversions along...

  • Doncaster Road, connecting at Doncaster Junction for passengers on routes 280, 282 and 907.
  • High Street, connecting passengers with route 908 services at Fyfe Drive.
