At 5:20am on Monday, emergency services were called to a home on Porter Street in Templestowe, where a 52-year-old man was found dead inside the property.
Homicide Squad detectives have since charged a 54-year-old man from Pascoe Vale with murder.
Police believe the two men were known to each other.
According to 9News, a rear window of the house had been smashed.
