On April 10, at around 4:45pm, a man allegedly approached a lady outside her Bulleen home whilst she was unpacking groceries. The man demanded the car keys, however the woman refused so the man fled.
Not long after this, another incident occurred in a shopping centre in Templestowe Lower, where the man allegedly demanded a female to get out of her vehicle. The offender then got into the car, however was unable to start it. He then fled the scene.
It came to police attention later that evening that a 29-year-old man was arrested for additional alleged offending in Bundoora.
The man faced charges including carjacking and attempted carjacking and he was remanded to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates' Court.
Things you can do to keep yourselves safe:
- Lock all doors and close all windows
- Pay attention to people around you and your surroundings
- Report any suspicious behaviour
- Install anti-theft devices (examples include: an alarm, steering wheel lock, GPS tracker)
- If you feel that you are being followed, do not drive home. Drive to a place that you know has CCTV footage and people that can help you (police and petrol stations are good options)
