  • Install a peephole (door viewer) to see who is at the door
  • Do not leave items at the door
  • Keep car keys and valuables away from windows where they may be seen by opportunistic thieves
  • Install a safe to store valuables
  • Install GPS trackers / tags on vehicles and designer handbags
  • Install a ‘Find My’ application on devices such as phones and laptops

If you are planning on going away and want to ensure your home seems occupied:

  • Ask a neighbour or friend to collect your mail, take out / bring in your bins, occasionally park their car in your driveway
  • Set timers to turn on lights at appropriate times (consider varying the time these turn on and off)
  • Install a video doorbell to remotely interact with someone who rings the doorbell
  • Be cautious of advertising your holiday plans online – think about uploading holiday photos/videos after your return

If you ever find yourself in danger or notice suspicious activity, prioritise your safety first. Try to get to a safe location as quickly as possible. Once you are safe, call Triple Zero (000) for immediate police assistance.

If the situation is non-emergency, you can reach out to the Police Assistance Line (131 444). Remember, staying calm and taking swift action can make a significant difference.
