A devastating head-on collision in Templestowe has claimed the lives of two people and left another in hospital.
Emergency services responded to the scene on Fitzsimons Lane around 9:25am on Monday following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
According to police, a silver SUV allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a hatchback. The two occupants of the hatchback sustained critical injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification is still pending.
The driver of the silver SUV, a 54-year-old woman from Balwyn North, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is currently under police guard.
A third vehicle, a grey SUV, was also involved in the crash but none of its occupants were injured.
